TheHowToLab ("we", "us") publishes troubleshooting guides at https://thehowtolab.com. This policy explains what data we collect when you visit, why, and what choices you have.

What we collect

We don't run user accounts, comments, or logins — there's nothing to sign up for. The data we do handle comes from two sources:

  • Analytics (Google Analytics 4). We use GA4 to see which pages get read and roughly where visitors come from (search, referral, direct). This includes standard web-analytics signals such as approximate location (city/country level), device and browser type, and pages viewed. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors.
  • Advertising (Google AdSense). This site shows ads served by Google. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies on your device to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where you've allowed it. Consent

If you're visiting from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you'll see a consent banner (Google's Funding Choices) before any advertising or analytics cookies that require consent are set. Google Consent Mode governs this: analytics and ad storage default to "denied" until you actively allow them, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing the consent banner's cookie or your browser's site data for this domain.

You can also opt out of personalized advertising broadly through Google Ad Settings or industry tools like the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page .

Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export data associated with you, and to object to or restrict certain processing (GDPR, EU/UK), or to know what personal information is collected and to opt out of its "sale" or sharing for targeted advertising (CCPA/CPRA, California). Because we don't hold user accounts, most of this data lives with Google (as our analytics and advertising processor) — you can exercise Google-specific rights through the links above. Data we don't collect

We don't ask for your name, email, or payment details to read a guide. The contact form/email on this site is used only to respond to the message you send us.
