Direct answer: compare your model’s setup and charging time

As a precaution, compare your charging setup and elapsed time with your exact model’s instructions. The four brands below set different rules. BISSELL 2284, 2389 and 2390 should be switched OFF to charge and take eight hours. The Tineco litevak takes three to four hours. Samsung’s Bespoke Jet Cordless Stick Vacuum battery takes about 3.5 hours on the Accessory Cradle, and LG’s CordZero A9 takes four hours for one battery. BISSELL’s support article for these lithium-ion hand vacuums says the machine should be in the OFF position to charge. It gives eight hours for a full charge. During charging the charge light blinks red, and it turns green once the battery is full. After the machine has been fully charged for ten minutes, the green light flashes once per minute.

BISSELL also says the adapter may become warm during charging and that this is normal. As a precaution, that statement does not override the stop rule above for any part that is damaged, swollen, wet or abnormally hot.

Tineco litevak

Tineco’s FAQ gives three to four hours for a full charge. It also asks for three to four hours of charging before the appliance’s initial use. The battery indicator lights turn solid blue when the appliance is fully charged. A rapidly blinking red battery indicator means the battery is out of power, and the FAQ advises charging it as soon as possible.

Tineco does not recommend using a different charger, because it may not be compatible with the battery. Follow that compatibility advice rather than assuming that a connector which fits is the right charger.

Samsung Jet Stick and Bespoke Jet

Samsung’s Bespoke Jet section says its battery takes about 3.5 hours to charge fully on the Accessory Cradle. The general charging section, which covers the stand or station, says the battery level indicator blinks while the unit charges. When the battery is completely charged, the blinking stops and the light dims.

For the Bespoke Jet Cordless Stick Vacuum, the battery level display is on top of the handle. It shows red with a low-battery message when the vacuum needs charging, orange or yellow for a medium charge, and green for a full charge. Treat the blinking and dimming as charging-state signs, and the colors as battery-level signs.

LG CordZero A9 charging time and LG stick-vacuum setup

LG’s battery performance page gives four hours to fully charge one battery. If a sub battery is also charged, the page says the total may be about eight hours. Compare your elapsed time with the figure that matches the batteries you are charging. An eight-hour total for two packs is not an eight-hour figure for each pack.

LG’s stick troubleshooting page says the adapter should be firmly plugged into the back of the charging station and the power cord into a wall outlet. It says the vacuum will not charge properly if the adapter or power cord is disconnected from the station. It also tells owners to remove debris from the charging port on the station and the vacuum, and warns that too much force on the port may damage it.

The battery level LEDs light to show the level once the vacuum is properly seated on the station, and all of them light when charging is complete. If the unit still will not charge, the page says service may be required and recommends contacting LG’s chat support.

As a precaution, do not insert metal objects into the charging contacts or move a live connection around to restore charging.

Check the external charging setup

• Match the adapter to your model. As a precaution, compare its reference with your exact model’s manual and do not try an unapproved adapter as a diagnostic step. The Tineco litevak FAQ advises against a different charger because it may not be compatible with the battery.
• Inspect while unplugged. As a precaution, unplug the charging setup before inspecting the cord, plug and accessible port, and stop if anything is damaged. LG’s stick-vacuum troubleshooting says to remove charging-port debris with a dry towel or brush and warns against excessive force.
• Check the power path. LG’s stick-vacuum troubleshooting says to connect the adapter securely at the back of the station and plug its cord into the wall outlet. For BISSELL 2284, 2389 and 2390, the support page says to unplug and test another device, such as a phone charger, in an outlet that appears not to work. As a precaution, do not treat a successful outlet test as proof that the vacuum’s adapter works.
• Set the switch and seat the unit. For BISSELL 2284, 2389 and 2390, the support page says the machine should be OFF to charge. LG’s stick-vacuum troubleshooting says to turn the vacuum off before attaching it to the station; the LEDs show the battery level when it is connected properly.
• Record the session. Note the start time, the indicator at the start and what changes by the documented completion time. For the LG CordZero A9 with a sub battery, state whether the elapsed time covers one pack or both.

If it still does not charge

Give support the exact model and adapter reference, the outlet-check result, the elapsed charging time and the indicator at the beginning and end. State whether the machine reached its documented completion signal. As a precaution, include a photograph of the product label and a short recording of any changing indicator when contacting support.
