Floor Washer Streaks? Check Water, Solution and Roller

Short answer

For BISSELL CrossWave Cordless 2551 and X7, make another pass with the trigger released to collect residual water. For Tineco FLOOR ONE S5, check the solution, roller, scraper, channel and floor surface against its troubleshooting page. Follow the cleaning and drying instructions for your exact model.

Floor washer streaks: match the check to your model

  1. Check 1

Does your BISSELL CrossWave Cordless 2551 or X7 leave water behind?

    Yes

Pass over the wet area again with the trigger released to collect the remaining water.

    No

  2. Check 2

Is your CrossWave 2551 or X7 on waxed or unsealed flooring, or your Tineco S5 on uneven flooring?

    Yes

Stop using that model on this floor. The CrossWave pages advise against waxed or unsealed floors, and the S5 page asks for sealed, even hard floors.

    No

  3. Check 3

Is the filter or screen of your BISSELL CrossWave X7 dirty or still damp?

    Yes

Clean the filter and screen under warm water and let both dry fully before reassembling.

    No

  4. Check 4

Are you using a non-Tineco solution in your FLOOR ONE S5?

    Yes

Use Tineco solution, as the FLOOR ONE S5 streaks page directs.

    No

  5. Check 5

Replace the roller as directed by the FLOOR ONE S5 streaks page.

    No

  6. Check 6

Are you using a cleaner other than Roborock's in your Dyad WD1S1A?

    Yes

Switch to a Roborock cleaning solution, diluted as its bottle directs, since the manual says to use only Roborock solutions.

    No

None of these?

As a precaution, contact the manufacturer if streaks remain; provide the model, floor type and solution used.

The checks below address water trails and streaks on specific floor washers. Match the model and the visible mark to the relevant manufacturer guidance.

Separate a wet trail from a line that stays

As a precaution, inspect an already-cleaned area after it dries before making another wet pass. Note whether a visible line remains and which model left it.

CrossWave X7 Hard Floor dispenses less solution than Area Rug or Turbo Pet; pass again with the trigger released to pick up water.
Diagram by TheHowToLab, drawn from BISSELL: CrossWave X7 streaking on floor. Not to scale.
  1. Water left on the floor. BISSELL’s CrossWave Cordless page says too much water may have been left on the floor, and it recommends going over the area again without pressing the trigger to pick up residual water. The CrossWave X7 page gives the same pass and adds extra drying passes as needed.

  2. A wet or dirty filter and tank. The eufy WetVac W31 page says a wet sponge filter can affect suction and mopping and leave water stains, and it asks for the filter to be completely dry before use. BISSELL’s X7 page asks you to clean the filter and screen under warm water and let both dry fully. Roborock asks for the dirty tank and filter to be cleaned weekly, and allows up to 24 hours for filter drying.

  3. Debris on the roller, scraper or channel. Tineco’s FLOOR ONE S5 page asks you to check the scraper for dirt or deformation, and the channel and brush roller for debris. BISSELL’s X7 page says to clear debris from the suction path behind the brush roll.

  4. Solution type and amount. Tineco’s FLOOR ONE S5 page lists a non-Tineco solution as a cause and asks you to use Tineco solution. The Roborock Dyad manual says to use only Roborock cleaning solutions and not to add other cleaners to the tank or the floor. For its floor cleaner it says, “Do not add excessive cleaner.”

  5. A roller past its replacement cycle. Tineco’s FLOOR ONE S5 page gives a 3 to 6 month replacement cycle for the brush roller. BISSELL’s X7 page says that if streaking persists, you should order a new brush roll and filter.

  6. Floor surface. BISSELL’s CrossWave Cordless and X7 pages say not to use the machine on waxed or unsealed floors. Tineco’s FLOOR ONE S5 page asks for a sealed, even hard floor.

BISSELL CrossWave X7

The X7 page covers models 3011, 3055, 3276 and 3277. Its procedure is forward passes with the trigger held, then a release over the wet floor to suction up the water, with extra drying passes as needed. Hard Floor mode dispenses less solution than Area Rug or Turbo Pet mode. Clean and fully dry the filter and screen, then the brush roll, its window, ends, gear and housing. With the roll removed, clear debris from the suction path behind it. If streaking persists, the page directs you to order a new brush roll and filter.

Tineco FLOOR ONE S5

For streaks on the FLOOR ONE S5, inspect the scraper for dirt or deformation and the roller channel for debris. Follow the S5 streaks instructions for cleaning these areas. Do not press the trigger while checking parts unless instructed to do so. For general floor-washer care and other symptoms, use the floor washer troubleshooting hub.

Roborock Dyad (model WD1S1A)

The Dyad manual names model WD1S1A in its specification table. It says to use only Roborock cleaning solutions, to prevent corrosion, and only cold water in the clean tank, to avoid deforming it. It states, “Always place the vacuum on the charging dock after use to prevent water stains.” Self-cleaning is listed as “Self-clean after every use,” and the manual says to empty the dirty tank once self-cleaning is complete. The rollers and the dirty tank with its filter are both listed for weekly cleaning.

eufy WetVac W31

eufy’s W31 water-stain article links a wet sponge filter to reduced pickup and possible water stains. Use a completely dry filter. Before stopping, release the water spray button and keep the WetVac running for a few seconds before moving the handle upright.

Questions readers ask

Can I use my usual floor cleaner?

Use the solution your model names. Tineco’s FLOOR ONE S5 page lists a non-Tineco solution as a cause of streaks, and the Roborock Dyad manual says to use only Roborock cleaning solutions with the vacuum.

Does the self-clean cycle help streaks?

The Roborock Dyad manual asks for self-cleaning after every use and for the dirty tank to be emptied when it finishes. For a cycle that will not start or stops on the dock, use the self-clean troubleshooting guide.

When should the brush roll be replaced?

Tineco’s FLOOR ONE S5 page gives a 3 to 6 month replacement cycle for the brush roller. BISSELL’s CrossWave X7 page directs you to try a new brush roll and run a few cleaning strokes, and to order a new brush roll and filter if streaking persists.

When to stop and contact support

Stop using a CrossWave Cordless 2551 or X7 on waxed or unsealed floors, and stop using a FLOOR ONE S5 on uneven or unsealed floors. As a precaution, if a mark remains after the checks documented for your model, record the floor type and solution used and contact the manufacturer.

For other floor-washer symptoms, use the floor washer troubleshooting hub. For a robot with a mop attachment, use the robot mop streaks guide.
